Explorer Post #9005
The Bettendorf Fire Explorer Post was established in 1993 and became an important part of the department, developing youth with an interest in the fire service. We are open to anyone between the ages of 14 to 18 years old. Explorers may live in either Scott and Rock Island Counties. Currently there are 11 members of the group and they attend area high schools. While some members of the explorer post seek to enter the fire service as their chosen profession, others look to serve their community as a volunteer firefighter. Training is held on the first and the third Monday's of the month. The advisors teach a wide range of topics and hands on skills. We train the explorers in topics required to pass the state firefighter 1 exam.
Training includes:
- Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Practice
- Ropes
- Ventilation
- Hose Advancement
- Water Application
- Hose Streams
- Auto Extrication
- Just to name a few!!!
The Bettendorf Fire Explorer Post assists the Bettendorf Fire Association with the annual spring pancake breakfast and the 4th of July pork chop tent at Middle Park Bandshell.
