POSTED: September 11, 2015

On September 10 at 2:38 p.m. the Bettendorf Police Department responded to a five vehicle accident on the I-74 bridge, westbound, coming into Iowa just before the State Street off ramp. The accident caused a complete blockage and closure of I-74 for just under an hour before reopening. The accident was due to a combination of events including; peak traffic time and rush hour traffic, traffic back-up on the State Street off ramp due to construction restricting the off ramp to one lane, drivers failing to maintain and assure clear distance from the vehicle ahead in relationship to speed, and not being able to stop in a timely manner.

Four out of the five vehicles were towed from the scene and no drivers were transported to the hospital. No citations were issued in regards to the accident. However one driver, Megan Schudder, age 23 from Moline was issued two citations for driving without a valid driver’s license and failure to provide proof of insurance.
