Mayor Robert Gallagher Elected to Executive Committee for the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative

POSTED: September 20, 2017

Mayor Robert Gallagher has been elected to the executive committee for the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative. The MRCTI is comprised of 80 mayors who represent cities on the main stem of the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana.

On September 13, more than two-dozen mayors, including Mayor Gallagher, gathered for the sixth annual meeting of the MRCTI, which was held in St. Louis, MO. Mayors called for a national infrastructure proposal in light of recent damage caused by hurricanes and announced a partnership with CDP North America. The new agreement signed in St. Louis with CDP will expose Mississippi River City projects to a $2 trillion global investment portfolio. CDP is an international non-profit that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources, and protect forests.

Mayors on America’s waterway know infrastructure investment. Mayors announced lessons they have learned in sustaining disasters including allocating recovery funds to FEMA over other agencies, making recovery open to all in need, assembling a long-term recovery investment strategy that includes block grants, and ensuring recovery funding goes to recovery projects.
