UPDATE: July 10th Accident at 23rd Street and State Street

During the subsequent investigation, it has been determined that a 2000 Oldsmobile driven by Jonathan Talbot, a 35-year-old from East Moline, was traveling south on 23rd Street. Talbot failed to obey a traffic control signal and entered the intersection on a red light. Upon entering the intersection Talbot drove his vehicle into the driver’s side of the trailer being pulled by a 2014 Mack semi-truck traveling eastbound on State Street. The semi-truck and trailer was being operated by Larry Larson, a 59-year-old from Davenport.

Talbot’s vehicle sustained severe damage as it struck the trailer and passed under it. Talbot’s vehicle exited the passenger side of the trailer and continued traveling southbound. Talbot’s vehicle then drove off the roadway and struck various fixtures on the side of the roadway, including a stop light support post, a concrete planter and a fence.

Talbot was transported by Medic Ambulance to Genesis East and later transferred to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City for injuries sustained during the crash. Talbot is currently in stable condition.

The accident resulted in an approximately 30 minute closure of eastbound State Street/US HWY 67.  The Bettendorf Police Department was also assisted in its response by the Iowa DOT Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division, Bettendorf Fire Department, and City of Bettendorf Public Works.

The incident remains under investigation by The Bettendorf Police Department.
