Quad Cities Crime Victims’ Rights Week Proclamation Ceremony

The Bettendorf Police Department in cooperation with the Quad Cities Crime Victims' Rights Week Committee invites you to the Quad Cities Crime Victims' Rights Week Proclamation Ceremony on Monday, April 11, 2011 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Bettendorf City Hall Council Chambers, 1609 State Street.

Join us as we acknowledge and honor the victims of crime in our community.

April 10 - 16 is National Crime Victims' Rights Week, a time to honor victims and the advocates of victim's rights.  The national theme this year "Reshaping the Future, Honoring the Past" evokes victims' struggles and our community's duty to help them rebuild stronger lives.

The Proclamation Ceremony will include Guest Speakers Chief Phil Redington, Bettendorf Police Department; Chief Scott Harris, Rock Island Police Department; and Mike Walton, Scott County Attorney.

Also speaking at the event is Matt Miller.  Matt's son, Kurtus, was killed in an arson at an apartment building.  The fire was set in response to a noise complaint made by another woman in the apartment building against the two defendants.

Also on display will be a Crime Victims' Rights Week Memorial Flag.  On the flag are photos of various crime victims.  These photos help illustrate the impact of crime and victimization in the Quad Cities.  Crime not only affects its victims and survivors, but their families, friends, co-workers, neighbors and our community as a whole.

The Proclamation Ceremony is open to the public.  We encourage everyone to attend.
