Trees Are Us Hopewell Avenue Tree Planting

October 17, 2011

The Bettendorf Trees Are Us Committee, along with volunteers from the Alcoa Company, will be meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29 along Hopewell Avenue, near Hopewell School to conduct a community Tree Planting. They will be planting, mulching, and staking 25 Crab Trees, and mulching and staking another 24 trees that morning, that were previously planted. The project is part of the Trees Are Us Committee annual efforts to enhance the urban forest in Bettendorf. In addition, this specific area, was part of a Trail Visioning Workshop, that was conducted by the Trees Forever organization. This was part of a state wide program that provided professional landscape planning and design assistance to create images of what finished trails could look like and to assist with developing standards to encourage those visions.

In addition to funding from the City of Bettendorf, this project was also made possible by funding from the Scott County Regional Authority (SCRA), the Alcoa Community Foundation, and Mid American Energy's Trees Please program. This is the first phase of work along the Hopewell Avenue corridor that will eventually provide a sound environmentally sustainable community, that will benefit generations of citizens.
