Tree Plantings in City Parks

POSTED: October 31, 2017

Over the weekend, approximately 35 volunteers helped plant, mulch, stake, water, and place tree wrap protection on 28 trees at Edgewood Park, and another eight trees along 23rd Street in Veterans Memorial Park. Volunteers from the City’s Trees Are Us Committee led the way and showed the volunteers the proper techniques for planting, mulching, and staking the trees.

In addition to the Trees Are Us members, volunteers came from scout troops, local high schools, and the Bettendorf Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. The Rotary Club had a great turn out with over 15 volunteers and President Tim Lane presented a $500 check from the Rotary Club to help fund the tree planting.

The Trees Are Us Committee is sponsored by the City of Bettendorf. The group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at City Hall beginning at 4 p.m.

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the Trees Are Us Committee, or volunteering for future tree planting and care projects can contact the Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Department at 563-344-4113.
