Snow and Ice Control

SNOW REMOVAL POLICY:
The City of Bettendorf’s standard for snow/ice control is to achieve bare pavement on public streets within twenty-four (24) hours following the cessation of snowfall from an average storm of 4” to 6”.

We recognize every snow and ice event is unique; however the response of our staff will be consistent with the policies and procedures established by the department.  Field conditions will always warrant changes as the event progresses, but the goal of providing excellent customer service through efficient snow and ice control at the best price while maintaining the safety of the traveling public will always take precedence.

PRIORITIES FOR SNOW AND ICE CONTROL OPERATIONS:
In order to make the most efficient use of available resources, we have established priorities using the assumption that the severity of a storm is not beyond the normal capabilities of the City’s snow removal resources.  Depending on the nature of the snowstorm, deviations could occur. The established priorities are as follows:

  • Arterials Streets, City Buildings and Parking Lots                                   1st Priority
  • Collectors                                                                                                        2nd Priority
  • Local Roads and Cul-de-Sacs                                                                   3rd Priority
    • Some priority given to school needs during school days
    • Some priority given to church needs on Sundays
  • Alleys/ Recreation Trails                                                                               4th Priority
