Library Expands Onsite Public Services

Bettendorf Public Library will expand onsite public services starting Friday, June 12, 2020 as authorized by Proclamation of the Governor of the State of Iowa and in accordance with all existing social distancing, enhanced hygiene, and public health measures and requirements set by state and public health officials. As part of a “phased” reopening plan for service, the Library will offer the following services during regular summer hours of operation (M-TH, 9:00 AM-9 PM; F-SA, 9 AM-5:30 PM) with Select Service Hours offered to vulnerable populations and those 65 yrs. and older (details below).

Circulation Services

  • On-demand HOLDS pick-up, independent patron access to all library collection areas, and use of automated check-out stations and on-site online catalog stations will resume.
  • No-contact Curbside Pickup Service* of reserved items will continue as an enhanced courtesy service option for pick-up/check-out of library materials, as requested (see details below).
  • Select Service Hours for vulnerable populations and patrons 65 yrs. and older (9-10 AM, daily) will continue.
  • Cash-free payments will continue.
  • Get a Card - Want to check out items but don’t have a library card? Apply for a Bettendorf Public Library card online @ bettendorflibrary.com. Card registrations/renewals are available online or by phone only.

Information and Youth Services

  • Reference, General Information, and Census Assistance - Assistance with Reference, General Information, and US Census application is available by phone during regular hours of operation for Adult Services at (563) 344-4179, for Youth Services at (563) 344-4178, or by email @ info@bettendorflibrary.org.
  •  Public Computer Area - In accordance with ongoing social distancing and public health requirements, public access computers are available for use with minimum 6 ft. separation for one (2 hr.) session per patron, per day. Patrons may reserve computer sessions one day in advance.
  •  Digital Collections and Online Databases - A robust collection of digital materials, e- books, e-magazines, and music downloads can be accessed remotely at bettendorflibrary.com/digital-content.
  • Library Programs - Online public program schedules will continue to temporarily replace “live” in-person program activities until social distancing and enhanced hygiene practices support the return to group activities and meeting spaces are not required to support library operations. *No-contact Curbside Pick-up Service

Bettendorf Public Library will continue to offer walk-up No-Contact Curbside Pick-up Service to Bettendorf Library cardholders as an enhanced courtesy service option, available Monday – Thursday, 11 AM- 6 PM and Friday-Saturday, 11 AM – 4 PM.

 

  • Placing Holds - Hold requests for this service do not include: library kits such as board games and puzzles; tablets, or Playaway views and launchpads.

 Hold requests for items can be placed online, through the Library’s website at www.bettendorflibrary.com. Click on Library Account to log in using a Bettendorf Public Library card. Patrons can also call the Bettendorf Public Library for personal assistance in reserving items at (563) 344-4175.

  •  Pick-up Notification - Once the patron receives notice the hold is available for pickup, they may call the library between 11 AM and 6 PM on Monday – Thursday, and 11 AM- 4 PM on Friday-Saturday to schedule a time to pick-up materials. Patrons should provide advance notice of pick-up times.
  •  Pick-up Location - Walk-up materials pick-up stations will be set up outside the library at designated pickup area at the 18th parking lot.  Staff will place marked/bagged items checked out to the patron’s card on tables at scheduled pick-up time. Each bag will be marked with the first four letters of the patron’s last name and last four digits of the patron’s library card. Patrons will retrieve items from the walk-up HOLDS station at pre-arranged appointment times.
  •  Returns and Payments - Returned materials will not be accepted at curbside pick-up locations. Patrons are asked to return library materials through exterior book returns. *Payments can be made online or by phone only.
  •  Questions - Information about No-Contact Curbside Pickup Service and other services can be obtained by calling the Bettendorf Public Library at (563) 344-4175 or by email @ info@bettendorflibrary.org.

 Temporarily Unavailable Services- Public meeting room reservations, study rooms (Occupancy-2), outreach visits, public copier/fax services, and notary services are temporarily unavailable until social distancing and public health requirements return to pre-COVID status and/or facility spaces are not required to support library operations.

All “live” on-site programs and activities are temporarily suspended until August 15, and will gradually resume in “phases”, based on social distancing and meeting size requirements set by state and public health officials, and availability of facility spaces. *Recorded library programs can be accessed online through the library’s website and social media outlets.

Hours of operation and services may be adjusted as conditions require.  Some services may be available for Bettendorf cardholders only, based on demand and availability.
