New Rescue Boat

BFRD Receives New Rescue Boat - Marine 1
Marine 1
Bettendorf Fire Department's primary boat is a 26' landing craft style vessel. The funds for the boat were secured through a grant from the Department of Homeland Security called the Port Security Grant Program (PSGP).
The purpose of the PSGP is to support increased port-wide risk management; enhanced domain awareness; training and exercises; expansion of port recovery and resiliency capabilities; and further capabilities to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from attacks involving improvised explosive devices and other non-conventional weapons; and competitively award grant funding to assist ports in obtaining the resources required to support the National Preparedness Goal's associated mission areas and core capabilities.
BFRD was awarded the PSGP grant in 2011 and immediately started writing specs for the new boat. The specs went out for bid and the contract was awarded to Lake Assault Boats out of Superior Wisconsin. In late July of 2012 the Bettendorf Fire Department took delivery of the vessel and Marine 1 went into service.
