Arbor Day 2011 Tree Planting at Hopewell School

J. Sterling Morton proposed in 1872, that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. That one special day had led to the spread of knowledge and care for tree plantings and millions of trees planted all across the nation. The Trees Are Us Committee of the City of Bettendorf is committed to holding true to that special day and will participate with the staff and future first grade students of Hopewell Elementary School in the annual celebration of Arbor Day on Friday April 29th at 10:00am. The students will participate in the tree planting process along side city staff, committee members and school faculty in the planting of a specially selected hardwood maple tree at the elementary school.

The planting of this tree will be used as an educational tool by the City of Bettendorf and the Trees Are Us Committee in promoting the Urban Forest of our Community, communicating the benefits of tree plantings, and the recognition of Bettendorf as a Tree City, USA, and the city's intent to continue its tree planting program and efforts to continue to be a Premier City.
