BETTENDORF: On Friday, February 17 beginning at 1:30 p.m., the City of Bettendorf will host a press conference at Bettendorf City Hall/Council Chambers, 1609 State Street to introduce the Quad Cities to Dekhockey.

Patrik Levesque, a professional hockey player who played for the Quad City Mallards from 2009-2010, will be on hand to discuss this unique sport.

Dekhockey is a form of off-ice hockey played on a court wearing tennis shoes, using a ball, in a rink with a special plastic surface.  It is just as challenging as ice hockey but requires no skating skills making it a more accessible and affordable sport.  Dekhockey is a non-contact sport, allowing raw talent and coordination to become the dominant factors.  The game can be played by all ages, from athletes to amateurs. The 3 vs. 3 dekhockey is new not only to the Quad Cities but to the country.  Bettendorf will be the first city in the United States to offer 3 vs. 3 dekhockey.  The Bettendorf court will be placed at Crow Creek Park.

The game of dekhockey 3 vs. 3, originally started in Patrik's home town, Trois-Rivieres, three years ago.  This summer there will be over 2,000 people of all ages playing for a population of 130,000 and more than half of these players have never played ice hockey.

The nation has become increasingly more aware of the need for recreation, outdoor leisure activities, and exercise.  The City of Bettendorf strives to follow this national trend to ensure that adequate park and recreational facilities are provided.  With this new sport, the City of Bettendorf plans on becoming the home of 3 vs. 3 dekhockey in the country.
