City Announces New Fire Chief

The City of Bettendorf is pleased to announce the promotion of Assistant Chief Steve Knorrek to the position of fire chief. Assistant Chief Knorrek has been acting chief since Chief Gerry Voelliger retired in April of this year. The City Council will approve the recommendation of the Civil Service Commission at the Tuesday, November 20, 2018 City Council meeting.

“City officials decided not to participate in a nationwide search to fill the position of fire chief, but to hire within the department. We feel Assistant Chief Knorrek’s impressive history with the Bettendorf Fire Department will make him an excellent leader who will continue to provide quality service to our community,” commented City Administrator Decker Ploehn.

Assistant Chief Knorrek has been with the fire department since September 1983. His duties throughout the years include management of personnel, plan review, fire inspections, fire investigation, maintenance of EMS service authorization, and serving on various committees and boards.

A swearing in ceremony will be held at the Tuesday, December 4, 2018 City Council meeting.
