Multi-Vehicle Accident in Bettendorf

On January 9, 2019 at approximately 11:55 a.m. the Bettendorf Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle accident on the westbound I-74 bridge at mile marker 4.7.

It was determined that four vehicles were involved in a chain reaction crash after another vehicle became disabled in the roadway.  During the collision two vehicles sustained disabling damage and totally blocked the roadway. Due to the nature of the roadway and stopped vehicle traffic, emergency personnel had to access the accident location by traveling the wrong way on I-74 for a short distance. I-74 west remained closed for approximately 40 minutes until the scene could be cleared and the roadway safely reopened.

Drivers from two of the vehicles, a 25-year old female from Ohio, IL and a 48-year old male from Davenport were transported to local hospitals by Medic Ambulance.

Drivers are reminded that the I-74 corridor is an active construction area and will remain so in the coming years.  Drivers need to slow down, increase following distances and remain attentive to changing traffic conditions.

The Bettendorf Fire Department assisted on scene.
