Police Chase Resulting in Accident and Arrests at 16th and State/Grant Street

On July 4, 2019 at 10:21pm Bettendorf Police Officers were contacted by Scott Emergency Communications Center that there were two vehicles coming over the I-74 Bridge from Moline entering Bettendorf following each other as one of the vehicles had been struck by gunfire by the occupant of a tan 2003 Chevy Impala that had occurred in Rock Island where the incident originated. The caller from the victim vehicle had contacted police dispatch in an attempt to give locations. At 10:27pm the suspect vehicle was located near the area of 53rd and Utica Ridge Road by a marked Iowa State Patrol unit along with a marked Bettendorf PD unit where a pursuit ensued. The Iowa State Patrol unit was the primary unit with the Bettendorf PD unit following close behind. The pursuit continued south on Utica Ridge then east on Spruce Hills Drive then south on 18th St. to the downtown area of Bettendorf where multiple Bettendorf PD units converged. During the pursuit it was indicated that the fleeing vehicle was intentionally trying to strike the Iowa State Patrol Unit and Bettendorf PD units. Once downtown the Iowa State Patrol unit made intentional contact with the fleeing vehicle in the 1800blk of State St. attempting to end the pursuit. This spun the vehicle around now heading the wrong way on State St. where it intentionally struck Bettendorf squad cars causing damage before striking a street light pole at 16th and State St. where it came to a stop. Police vehicles and officers converged and apprehended the two occupants of the vehicle and a handgun was recovered from the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Ammanda Kaye Medina, age 29, and the passenger was identified as Darrell Kenneth Holloway, age 28. 

As a result Ammanda Medina was charged by the Iowa State Patrol with the following charges:

Assault on a Police Officer W/ Attempt to Cause Serious Injury (2 Counts)

Driving the Wrong Way

Eluding

Obedience to Police Officers

Speeding

The passenger Darrell Holloway was charged by the Bettendorf Police with the following charges:

Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Carrying Weapons

Warrant Apprehension for Aggravated Domestic Battery (Rock Island County)

Rock Island Police detectives responded to assist with the investigation with charges to follow.

No injuries occurred to officers or bystanders.

There was damage to the Iowa State Patrol Unit and three Bettendorf PD units, one of which is not driveable.
