Portion of Mississippi River Trail Closing as Demolition of Old I-74 Bridge Continues

To ensure the safety of the public, the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) located along the riverfront levee in Bettendorf is closing starting Thursday, August 3^rd.

The MRT will stay closed into September as demolition of the old I-74 Bridge continues in the area immediately adjacent to the trail. At this time, the Iowa Department of Transportation has not announced when it plans to use controlled explosives to remove suspension cables and towers on the westbound bridge.

A detour route, as seen below, will be in place to safely route pedestrians and cyclists around the construction. The detour will generally consist of using 12^th Street, the newly constructed Urban Park Recreational Trail underneath the new I-74 Bridge, 15^th Street, Grant Street, and 17^th Street.
