Winter 2023-2024: What You Need To Know

It’s a new season and the City of Bettendorf wants to make sure you’re ready for it – whether it’s helping you fill your calendar with some fun events or prepare you for snow, snow, and more snow.

Whether you like it or not, snow will fall all over our City and we want you to know what to expect as well as what you’re responsible for as a homeowner. The City of Bettendorf’s standard for snow/ice control is to achieve bare pavement on public streets within 24 hours following the cessation of snowfall from an average storm of 4” to 6”. To see how areas are prioritized, click here.

You can have peace of mind that Public Works Crews are trained and ready for wintry weather! To see the friendly competition that takes place, click here.

There are also several things you should keep in mind when there’s a snow event to avoid getting a citation. Make sure you are aware of these rules. If you have any questions regarding our City’s Snow Removal Policy, click here.

As you celebrate the past year and ring in the year ahead, keep in mind that you can only shoot off fireworks for a 2.5 hour period - on December 31st from 10pm until January 1st at 12:30am. If you use fireworks outside of that window, you could face a fine. Click here to view our Fireworks Ordinance or contact the Bettendorf Police Department about offenders.

If you still have some cleaning up to do outside, Public Works Crews will pick up your bagged and stickered yard waste on Fridays. All you have to do is call (563) 344-4088. You can also drop off your yard waste at the Davenport Compost Facility. For more information and tips for bagging yard waste, click here.

We understand that with the holidays comes some extra garbage. You are allowed to place two (2) extra bags of garbage without stickers next to your garbage cart on your collection day between December 26th and December 30th.

Once you’re done admiring your Christmas tree, you can dispose of it and Public Works Crews will pick it up. Live Christmas tree collection is from December 26th through January 6th on your collection day. No sticker is required, but you must remove all ornaments, plastic wrap, and tree stands. Any artificial Christmas trees you would like to dispose of can be placed out for collection on your scheduled bulky waste day.

If you are a resident of Bettendorf and you have a dog who is six months old or older, they are required to be licensed every year:

  • $3 for Spayed or Neutered Pet (Please provide proof of spay or neuter.)
  • $25 for Unaltered Pet

For more information, click here.

There are four holidays our City will observe in Winter 2023-2024: Christmas on December 25th, New Year’s Day on January 1st, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 15th, and Presidents’ Day on February 19th. This means City Hall will be closed and collection services may be impacted. When we have those holiday schedules, we will post them here.

There are many events taking place across our City over the next couple of months, but here are some features:

December 31stNoon Year’s Eve at the Family Museum
