Our purpose is to serve Bettendorf by providing excellent customer service and financial management.

The Finance Department is committed to providing sound financial management, protecting the City's financial resources, providing accurate and timely financial reporting, and high quality financial services to elected officials, City departments and the citizens of Bettendorf.

The Finance Department processes numerous accounting transactions including:  accounts payable, payroll, and the receipting of revenue.  The department maintains detailed financial records, prepares financial reports and provides objective financial advice to elected officials and management.  Finance is charged with debt and investment management.  The Information Technology division is responsible for maintaining and improving the City's vast technology environment.

Each year an independent CPA firm audits the City's financial statements and prepares the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.  For 30 consecutive years, Bettendorf has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.  This certificate is awarded to governments for providing reports that, "go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure."

A key component of sound financial management is the coordination, implementation and monitoring of the City's annual budget.  The Mayor, City Council and City staff go to great lengths to formulate a budget that achieves the City's goal of a Financially Sound City, Providing Quality City Services.  Each year as part of the budget process, the Finance Department publishes the Annual Budget document.  For 26 consecutive years the City has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.  To earn this recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and excel as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communication tool.
