October 20, 2023 - Opening Scheduled
On Friday, October 27th at 10am, the City of Bettendorf is holding a Community Celebration at Meier Park, where a brand-new $260,000 state-of-the-art playground system was installed over the summer.

“The new equipment and turf offer a diverse play experience for toddlers and school-aged children,” said Kim Kidwell, Culture & Recreation Director. “This project is a collaboration between City Staff and the Meier Park Neighborhood and we could not be happier with the end result!”

The Community Celebration includes a ribbon cutting, as well as free cookies and water. It continues on Sunday, October 29th as the Meier Park Neighborhood hosts a “Party in the Park” from 3pm-5:30pm. The public is invited to attend both events as well as visit the playground any day of the week between dawn and dusk.

The perimeter curbing is complete and back fill has been leveled, which means we're ready to install the equipment as soon as it arrives!

Starting Monday, July 24th, the City of Bettendorf’s Meier Park is going to start looking very different as Parks Maintenance Crews replace the existing playground and all its equipment with a brand-new $260,000 state-of-the-art playground system.

The new playground system includes a playset for 2-5 year olds, a playset for 5-12 year olds, a spinner, a merry-go-round, and 6 swings – including 2 handicap-accessible swings – all installed on a synthetic turf safety surface. The renovation includes removing the old playground equipment, building new concrete edging, excavating the area, and then installing the new equipment. The project is expected to be completed by Labor Day 2023.

This project is funded within the City’s Community Improvement Program (CIP) in FY2023. On April 18, 2023, Bettendorf City Council approved a purchase order to ABCreative to buy and install the equipment, which is made by BCI Burke Company, LLC and has been used in several other City parks.

Located at 611 Holmes Street, Meier Park is one of the City’s oldest parks and includes a shelter, grill, ball field, tennis/pickleball court, recreation trail, and restrooms. Other recent and ongoing improvements include:

  • resurfacing the tennis/pickleball court and adding a 10-foot fence around the court
  • installing a bottle-filler water fountain and pet-friendly water fountain
  • repairing trip hazards on the recreation trail
